The Pickens County Courthouse, an Italianate structure, was completed in 1878 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Carrollton courthouse is famous for a ghostly image which can be seen in one of its windows.  Legend holds that it is the face of Henry Wells, who had been falsely accused of burning down the town’s previous courthouse and was lynched on a stormy night in 1878.
