St. Clair County has two county seats, Ashville and Pell City, with an active St. Clair County courthouse in each. The antebellum Ashville courthouse, a Greek Revival structure, was built in 1844 and is part of the Ashville Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
