Designed by Henry T. Phelps, the Sarita courthouse was completed in 1917, originally to serve as the Willacy County Courthouse.  After Kenedy County was created in 1921, the brick Texas Renaissance structure became the courthouse for the newly-created county.

The Kenedy County Courthouse, the only courthouse to serve Kenedy County, was restored in 2010 by Lord Aeck Sargent.
