Designed by Oscar Ruffini, the Sonora courthouse was built in 1891.  The limestone Second Empire structure is the only courthouse the county has ever had.

Restored and rededicated in 2002, the Sutton County Courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a Texas Historic Landmark.
