Originally designed by Charles Bulfinch and completed in 1832, the building, which serves as the Maine state capitol, underwent a substantial renovation in 1910, with G. Henri Desmond leading the redesign.
Built with Maine granite, the State House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
