The Upshur County Courthouse in Gilmer, Texas is under renovation.
Upshur County recently received a $5.2 million grant from the Texas Historical Commission’s Courthouse Preservation Program to proceed with the renovation. The total cost of the project will be about $13 million.
J.C. Stoddard Construction has been hired to restore the building to its original 1933 appearance, while the building will retain modern features such as a heating, ventilation and air conditioning system, and elevators.
Upshur County has moved its offices have been moved to a temporary complex across the street from the courthouse for the duration of the project, which is expected to last close to two years.
