A new courthouse is planned for Chilton County, Alabama.
The Chilton County Commission passed a resolution in April 2024 to approve plans for a new courthouse. Current plans call for a budget of $32 million to construct a two-story facility. The new courthouse is planned for a site north of downtown Clanton, close to Jefferson State Community College on State Highway 145.
The county believes that a new courthouse is necessary to replace the existing Chilton County Courthouse, which was built in 1960 and designed by Charles H. McCauley. Building a new courthouse would prove to be more cost-effective than continually repairing the existing Clanton courthouse, according to the Chilton County Commission.
There is currently no projected opening date for the new courthouse.
