The Waller County Courthouse in Hempstead, Texas has been torn down.
The former Hempstead courthouse, built in 1955, was deemed to be no longer suitable for the needs of the growing county located to the northwest of Houston. Inspections of the Cold War-era former courthouse revealed a crumbling foundation, and most of its pipes rusted beyond repair, and a perpetually-failing heating and air-conditioning system.
The building was town down in early 2024.
A new Waller County Courthouse is scheduled to be completed by 2025 on the site of the old courthouse. The architect of the new four-story structure will be Brinkley Sargent Wiginton Architects. The new courthouse will incorporate elements of Waller County’s former 1894 courthouse.
Images of the former Waller County Courthouse are included in the collection of images of Texas courthouses. This collection includes images of courthouses from all 254 Texas counties.
