Alaska State Capitol

Photos of the Alaska State Capitol in Juneau. Designed in an Art Deco style by James A. Wetmore and constructed between 1929 and 1931, the building, originally known as the Federal and Territorial Building, became the Alaska State Capitol after Alaska gained statehood in 1959.

Arizona State Capitol

Photos of the Arizona State Capitol (officially the Arizona Capitol Museum) in Phoenix. Designed by J. Riely Gordon and constructed between 1898 and 1901, the building served as the territorial capitol until Arizona was granted statehood in 1912. The building continued to serve as the state capitol, but the small and cramped nature of building eventually forced all official government functions to be moved to adjoining buildings. Now a museum, the Arizona State Capitol is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Hawaii State Capitol

Photos of the Hawaii State Capitol in Honolulu. Designed in a collaboration between John Carl Warnecke and Belt, Lemmon And Lo, the building is an example of Hawaiian international architecture, an American adaptation of the Bauhaus style. The Hawaii State Capitol is surrounded by a reflecting pool, symbolizing the Pacific Ocean, with the rotunda opening to the sky. Both legislative chambers are cone-shaped, symbolizing the volcanoes which formed the Hawaiian Islands. The Hawaii State Capitol, completed in 1969, is part of the Hawaii Capital Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Idaho State Capitol

Photos of the Idaho State Capitol in Boise. Construction began on the building, designed by John E. Tourtellotte, in 1906 and was completed in 1920. The American Renaissance structure, with Classical Revival elements, underwent extensive renovation during the 2000s, with restoration work being completed in 2010. The Idaho State Capitol is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Henri Desmond leading the redesign. Built with Maine granite, the Maine State House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Designed by Joseph Horatio Anderson and built between 1772 and 1779, the Georgian structure, which serves as the Maryland state capitol, also served as the United States capitol from November 1783 through August 1784, the only state capitol to have so served. The oldest state capitol building in continuous legislative use, the Maryland State House is a National Historic Landmark.

Nevada State Capitol

Photos of the Nevada State Capitol in Carson City. Designed by Joseph Gosling and completed in 1871, the Italianate structure was expanded in 1905 and completely rebuilt between 1977 and 1981. The Nevada State Capitol is one of three capitols in the nation in which the state legislature does not meet, as the legislature convenes in a separate building completed in 1971. The Nevada State Capitol is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Renaissance-style concrete dome was finally completed in 2002. The Oklahoma State Capitol is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
