The Italianate structure, built in 1862, served as the Frederick County Courthouse until 1982. The City of Frederick later purchased the building and, after renovations by architect Michael Proffitt, moved City Hall into it in 1986. Frederick City Hall is part of the Frederick Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
