Images of two city halls in Virginia, Fairfax City Hall and Winchester City Hall, have been added to Capitolshots Photography’s collection of photos of city halls.
Images of courthouses and capitols are more prominent on Capitolshots Photography. At the onset of this long-term project, city halls were going to be featured almost as prominently.
It didn’t take long to discover that, though many city halls are significant historically or architecturally, many more are simply . . . plain? Purely functional? Ugly?
Now we rarely go out of our way to add images of new city halls to our collection, but we will do so if the building is impressive (such as the Winchester City Hall seen here) or, as happens often, the city hall also has a history as a courthouse as well. Many courthouses have been converted to use as city halls. In the case of Fairfax City Hall, the building also serves as the courthouse for the independent city of Fairfax.
